About Me

Dr Fourie’s qualifications include a BA (Hons) (US), MA (SocSci) (UP), PHD (SocSci)) (NWU).

She’s conducted extensive research and contributed to academic journal publications in the field of early childhood intervention and development, such as Child Abuse Research South Africa (CARSA), Practitioner Researcher and Families in Society.

Her passion is to assess and aid children to cope with distress, abuse, trauma, grief and loss. She delivers specific child-focused therapy to the child and greater family system and provide guidance and support needed to families as a whole.

Her services include assessments and referrals (when necessary to specialised practitioners), therapy for children with social, emotional and cognitive difficulties and parental guidance for families. Therapy could include group work with children in a friendly open and warm environment, including the family to enhance the quality of home life. She offers group therapy programmes as well as child-parent workshops. She provides parental guidance on an individual as well as a group level.

Dr Fourie has almost 20 years experience in the field of early childhood intervention and worked extensively in socially marginalised communities, both in South Africa and internationally. Her therapeutic techniques vary from crisis intervention and resource development, to empowerment of individual children.

Dr Fourie is currently working in private practice located in Gardens and lectures at the South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP) in Cape Town.

Dr Fourie’s therapeutic approach is based on Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). This is an approach to psychotherapy with children and their families. EFT holds elements of existential therapy (such as child-centred therapy and Gestalt therapy), family systems, as well as attachment theory therapy.

Dr Fourie’s approach is based on the premise that human emotions are connected to human needs and if activated, can help people change problematic emotional states and interpersonal relationships.
